Ta Prohm Temple originally called Rajavihara was built in the 12 Century under the reign of the Khmer King, Jayavarman VII. Ta Prohm was built as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and is located inside the Royal City of Angkor Thom in the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Archeological Park just outside of Siem Reap Cambodia.

Ta Prohm is large and there is plenty of space to walk around the grounds with many passageways to explore. It is impossible to miss the Massive trees. The Jungle that has taken over Ta Prohm Temple is deeply part of the experience when you visit. The trees have grown under, through and on top of almost every portion of this temple. It gives it an otherworldly feel.

Ta Prohm is also known as the Tomb Raider Temple as it was used in the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movie starring Angelina Jolie in 2001. This has made this Temple famous worldwide and one of the most visited temples in the Angkor Complex. Be prepared for lots of tourists but you can still find places for a quiet moment of reflection when you move deeper into the Temple.

*Quick tip: If you are trying to avoid some of the crowd. Get dropped at the West Side Entrance and Exit the East Side where you can be picked up. This is a longer walk but there is no parking for the Tour Buses on the West Side therefore you will have less congestion upon entering.
