Today we visited the War Museum Cambodia which is located on the outskirts of Siem Reap Cambodia. It is an open-air Museum that opened in 2001 which allows visitors to walk around a vast array of Tanks, armored personnel carriers, vehicles, weapons, and even a Helicopter. Most of the military items are of Russian origin but there are also Chinese and U.S.-made weapons on display. It is a sobering experience to walk quietly through the abandoned and rusting instruments of war. If you have the time please consider taking the time to stop by and check it out. Please put it on your list as it was not that long ago that the people of Cambodia were in the midst of the chaos of conflict, war, and genocide. The Cambodian Civil War lasted from 1968-1975 and devastated the entire country. In 1975 the Khmer Rouge took control of Cambodia. From 1975 to 1979 under the rule of the Khmer Rouge, the violence and unbelievable conditions that the Cambodian people lived in were astounding. In a 4 year period the Khmer Rouge killed between 1.5 million and 3 million of their own people in a mass Genocide that to this day affects the people of Cambodia.
