Angkor Wat was built in the early 12th century and is the largest religious monument in the world.
Angkor Wat was originally constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu and was later transformed into a Buddhist Temple. The original name of the temple was Vrah Viṣṇuloka or Parama Viṣṇuloka meaning “the sacred dwelling of Vishnu and the modern name Angkor Wat also know as Nokor Wat, means “Temple City” or “City of Temples” in Khmer.
Angkor Wat was built in 28 years from 1122 – 1150 CE during the reign of King Suryavarman II. In 1992 Angkor became a UNESCO World Heritage site.
