One of my favorite places in Thailand to visit is the Big Buddha above Karon. This is an amazing and very calm place to visit. The big Buddha of Phuket Thailand’s official name is Phra Phutta Ming Mongkol “the Cherished Auspicious Lord Buddha atop Nāga Hill” . It is located at the very top of Nakkerd Hill. Construction began in 2004 and is the 3rd tallest Statue in Thailand. The Big Buddha statue is 45 meters (148 feet) tall and 25.45 meters (83.5 feet) wide and is made of concrete and covered with Burmese white marble.
It is free to visit the Big Buddha however you are definitely going to need transportation to get to the top of the Hill. I personally will not take a tuk tuk to up the hill as it si very windy and steep. You can easily book a sightseeing trip and add the Big Buddha as a stop or you can as I usually do just get a taxi to take you to the top. They are happy to wait to take you to your next stop. I just confirm the price for return trip before we start.
Make sure you are dressed appropriately as this is religious site.
Once you are at the Buddha there are plenty of things to see. There of course is the Big Buddha but there are also many other Buddha statues around as well as a temple where you can be blessed by the monks. One of my favorite things to do is to purchase for brass hearts that you can write blessings on and then hang them in the trees. The brass leaves are 100 Bhat each (approx $3usd) each and they will provide you a marker to write your blessing.
The views are also spectacular. So be sure to check it out if you are in Phuket.
